For Jean-Baptiste Janisset, being constantly in motion, at the right moment, is the means by which he carries with him the stories and forms chosen for their strong symbolism or evocative power. He photographs the details that interest him and, with remarkable speed, makes a clay mold directly from a statue or an element of a mural. He tirelessly repeats these steps, from taking the photograph to molding and then casting in his studio to finalize his works.

"My mother is a past-life reader, so it's certainly no coincidence that I now mold cult or religious figures. To create these casts, I approach parish priests or work with contacts or friends abroad. I've met the brother of the King of Ouidah, Serigue Cheick Gueye of Touba, Kader of Algiers, and the organization where I live in Japan approached the Buddhist monk. I've even stolen some! These were acts carried out in France within rather mysterious historical and political contexts.

When I am near the statues, I feel as if I can hear their whispers; my mind is captivated, and I enjoy imagining their transformation through various methods of reproduction. This is undoubtedly why I felt the call of Africa from the very beginning of my studies at the School of Fine Arts. Since then, I have discovered several countries and met wonderful people deeply rooted in the faith of Allah, Jesus, Voodoo, and spirits. I certainly want to connect with individuals who remain attuned to the otherworldly realms, while respecting their traditions and ancestors".
