“Magic Misery” presents a new body of work by artist Lorena Buta, expanding her long-term project “UNREAL” (2023 - present) in which she investigates the detachment of the self from itself and its surroundings. “Magic Misery” explores the way in which stress, trauma and technology-driven hyperstimulation can act as triggers for a phantasmagoric feeling of alienation; a dreamlike state of being that dissolves identity, distorts perception of reality and questions one’s inhabitance in their own body.

Lorena Buta (b. 2001) is a romanian artist exploring the unstable boundary between consciousness and reality, constructing visual environments that mirror the psychological instability of depersonalization and derealization. Her work translates these states into symbolic, atmospheric imagery where clarity dissolves and perception shifts. Through her practice she reflects on the erosion of identity and the dissonance between internal experience and external reality.
