SOFRONIE CARMEN: 3W

3W is a street altar designed to trigger into the subconscious the repression of self in the working class. It is composed of restraints (industrial purpose for construction scaffolding) placed on a stone.

Stones are the bones of earth.
In psychology and ancient cultures they represent a symbol of the self, qualities of stability, durability, and immortality.
They represent the eternal, as they are a accumulation of dead matter. In Germanic cultures the graves were made from stone so that the spirit may remain eternal inside it.

The foundation stone of the Jerusalem Temple is seen as a center from where the world started. The philosopher’s stone is a goal of the alchemical process. One can consider stoning as a method of sharpening metal and a form of capital punishment.

Iron is by mass the most common element on earth, forming much of Earth’s outer and inner core.

Metals have been mastered into tools of material and tools of knowledge. Metals have been the material of deadly weapons and the restriction of physical freedom.

‘The Virtues, in despair, quit the earth; and the depravity of man becomes universal and complete. Hard steel succeeded then.’
—Ovid, Metamorphoses, Book I, Iron age, line 160 ff
